Passenger Handling Dangerous Goods Training

Passenger handling staff — check-in agents, gate agents, and boarding area supervisors — are often the first point of contact between an airline and its passengers. They are uniquely positioned to prevent dangerous goods from being carried on board by passengers, whether in hand luggage, checked baggage, or on the person. A passenger who boards with a damaged power bank or a concealed flammable aerosol creates a risk that can escalate rapidly at altitude.

Our passenger handling training covers IATA DGR Table 1.5.A, function 7.5 — the competencies required for personnel who accept passenger and crew baggage, manage boarding areas, and have direct passenger contact at an airport. The course addresses:

– The dangerous goods that passengers are permitted and forbidden to carry — in checked baggage, cabin baggage, and on their person
– How to ask the right questions at check-in to identify undeclared dangerous goods
– Recognising common passenger items that are regulated as dangerous goods, including lithium batteries, e-cigarettes, portable oxygen concentrators, camping stoves, and ammunition
– Procedures to follow when a passenger presents with a prohibited dangerous goods item
– Understanding the difference between items that require operator approval and those that are categorically forbidden
– The security and safety implications of dangerous goods in the cabin environment

The course is CAA approved, delivered online, with remote examination. It is suitable for check-in staff, gate agents, lounge staff, and any airline employee whose role involves direct passenger contact at an airport.
