Loadmasters are responsible for the physical loading, restraint, and unloading of cargo — including dangerous goods — on board an aircraft. They are the last people to see a consignment before the hold door is closed, and their decisions about where and how dangerous goods are positioned directly affect flight safety. Incorrect segregation, unsecured packages, or failure to identify a leaking or damaged consignment can lead to rejected shipments, aircraft damage, or in-flight emergencies.
Our training for loadmasters addresses the practical competencies required for safe aircraft loading under the IATA Dangerous Goods Regulations. Courses cover:
– Inspecting dangerous goods packages for damage or leakage before loading
– Understanding segregation requirements — which hazard classes can and cannot be loaded together
– Applying the IATA acceptance checklist for dangerous goods consignments
– Securing unit load devices (ULDs) containing dangerous goods in accordance with aircraft weight and balance constraints
– The relationship between loading procedures and the NOTOC (Notification to Captain)
– Emergency response to spills, leaks, or fires involving dangerous goods during loading or unloading
